Tank Water Heaters:Â These types of water heaters typically store between 19 – 80 gallons of water. The water is kept insulated and heated inside of the tank at all times until it is in demand by the homeowner. Tank water heaters are heated by three fuel sources – electric, natural gas, and propane. Other types are Hybrid Systems, which are very efficient.

Tankless Water Heaters:Â Tankless water heaters last longer, take up less space, and will not flood your room. They are, however, a bit more expensive than tank heaters.

In most cases, it is found that tankless water heaters will last 5 – 10 years or longer than a traditional tank water heater. You will always have hot water on demand and you’ll never run out of hot water because it continuously heats water through what’s called a heat exchanger.

In addition, if you want to reduce your carbon footprint, installing a tankless heater is a step in the right direction. You will save water, and save on your utility bills each month.

Hybrid Water Heaters:Â If you already have a tank water heater, we would recommend that you purchase a hybrid model if you do not want the expense of a tankless water heater. Hybrid water heaters are as energy-efficient as tankless water heaters and as high-capacity storage tank systems, giving you the best of both worlds.

So, How Does It All Work?…
Â
1. Regarding mechanism of action, it would be best to look at or compare the average household refrigerator. Refrigerators pick up heat from the inside of the unit, move it through coils, and dissipate it in the external or outside environment.

2. A Hybrid (heat pump water heater) works in the opposite direction. It collects heat from the outside environment and channels it to the water heater’s evaporator coils, which contain refrigerant.

3. The refrigerant picks up the heat molecules into the Hybrid’s heat exchanger to raise the water temperature to desired level chosen by the homeowner.

4. So hence, you can use the refrigerator analogy to answer the question, how does a hybrid water heater work?
